Museum Educator (Full-time, Non-exempt)
EdVenture Children's Museum, the South's largest children's museum, seeks a Museum Educator to join its creative and dynamic team. Responsible for developing and implementing school and group programs, both at the museum and at off-site locations for students in grades K through 6. This position also develops and implements on-site camp programs during school holidays, breaks and summer vacation.
Responsibilities include:
Developing, improving and expanding programs for school and group audiences, including on-site field trips and outreach programs. Coordinating procurement of materials and supplies for school and group programs. Developing and implementing on-site camp programs during school holidays, breaks and summer vacation. Ensuring that all programs are of the highest quality and meet the museum's mission and education goals, as well as South Carolina curriculum standards. Developing and present educational programs on the exhibit floor, as scheduled. Assisting, when needed, with the implementation of programs for after school audiences, including Club EdVenture, Future Leaders, and other out-of-school groups. Representing EdVenture in a professional manner when interacting with visitors and reporting safety and exhibit issues to appropriate staff as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications required include BA/BS degree in elementary and/or middle school education. Minimum of two years experience in education, child development or other related areas. Applicant should have an understanding of hands-on and informal learning, a commitment to providing high quality guest services, and knowledge of evaluation techniques. He/she should have experience in program development, understanding of adolescent development, strong organization and communication skills, pleasant personality, good interpersonal skills, professional and groomed appearance, commitment to diversity, ability to work as a team player, ability to meet deadlines, discretion and good judgment in daily activities. Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate good judgment are necessary. Must be a proficient writer. Proficient with computer software, especially MS Office.

Volunteer Coordinator - Part-time / Non-exempt
EdVenture Children's Museum, the South's largest children's museum, seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to join its creative and dynamic team. This position serves as the primary volunteer contact responsible for ensuring that volunteers have an exceptional volunteer experience here at the museum. The Volunteer Coordinator has responsibility for creating and implementing volunteer opportunities, coordinating youth participation, and maintaining relationships with school districts and other youth-serving organizations. This position also provides coordination in the planning, execution and administration of EdVenture's Museum Apprentice Program, a youth volunteer program open to students in grades 7-12.
Work Schedule and Conditions:
Regular schedule of 10 - 15 hours per week; flexible weekday schedule, with a minimum of one Saturday a month; works in office and at school and community sites. Occasionally required to assist in lifting and carrying heavy materials.

Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and expanding the museum's MAPs (Museum Apprentice Program) program including monthly trainings, mentoring opportunities, and community involvement activities, with a focus on STEM topics. Creating and delivering STEM-based opportunities for youth to be trained on and to implement programs for museum visitors.
- Working with school districts and other community partners to recruit and select students, including processing applications and performing interviews for the Museum Apprentice Program (MAP).
- Maintaining updated database of students participating in the MAP program. Provide enrollment and participation statistics on a monthly basis.
- Building and sustaining relationships with key youth-serving community groups.
- Working with the Youth Programs Manager and the Development Department to seek additional funding sources for youth programs, including providing content and writing support.
- Participating in special activities and other projects as needed. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in education, child development, social work or related field required with 2 years experience in education, recreation, youth development, social services or related field. Experience in working with youth in grades 6 through 12, as well as an understanding of adolescent development, strong organization and communication skills, pleasant personality, good interpersonal skills, professional and groomed appearance, commitment to diversity, ability to work as a team player, ability to meet deadlines, discretion and good judgment in daily activities. Must be a proficient writer, as well as have strong internet skills and have sound knowledge of social media methods. Proficient with computer software, especially MS Office.

Visitor Experience Manager
EdVenture Children's Museum, the South's largest children's museum, seeks a Visitor Services Manager to join its creative and dynamic team. This position serves as a lead customer service professional responsible for ensuring that visitors have an exceptional museum experience. The Visitor Services Manager has responsibility for maintaining EdVenture's reputation as a premier children's museum and creating a visitor experience that builds demand for attendance and repeat visitation.

Responsibilities include:
- Managing the museum's Experience Team, which provides EdVenture's high-quality, activities, programs and learning experiences.
- Leading the team by example, ensuring that visitor's expectations are met and exceeded.
- Building and sustaining a consistent, professional and motivated staff.
- Managing staffing structure, including processes such as schedules, trainings, and program delivery. Qualifications include:
- A four-year college degree required with minimum three years experience in hospitality, tourism and/or recreation preferred.
- Must have pleasant personality, good interpersonal skills, staff management experience, professional and groomed appearance, strong organization and communication skills, commitment to diversity, ability to work as a team player, ability to meet deadlines, discretion and good judgment in daily activities.
- Strong computer skills, experience with reservation systems (i.e. Vista) preferred. Other Requirements:
- Physically must be able to lift and carry at least 25lbs., bending, stooping, and climbing ladders.

Experience Team - Birthday Party Host
(Part-Time)
EdVenture is looking for fun, energetic and resourceful individuals who consider themselves to be the "life of the party!" Party Hosts are individuals with great hospitality skills who love to be with others and can make birthday parties a great experience.
Responsibilities include:
Party Hosts are responsible for leading the activities and hospitality associated with birthday parties at EdVenture. Hosts provide high quality customer experiences, assist parents and other adults with the birthday experience and create an entertaining environment for the children.
Qualifications include:
High school graduate with some college preferred. Prior work experience with children in a hospitality and/or educational setting. Should be friendly and comfortable working with children and adults, be a team player and have high standards of customer service. Excellent oral communication skills required.
After-School Educator – Future Leaders
The After-School Educator provides delivery of EdVenture’s youth development programs for students in grades 6–8 and works with the Youth Programs Manager, school districts, and other youth-serving community groups to implement afterschool programming, volunteer opportunities, service-learning projects, and related activities for youth.
This educator is primarily responsible for the preparation and teaching of afterschool programs, with a special emphasis on developing leadership potential and teaching components of science, technology, engineering, and math content areas.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Work closely with the Youth Programs Manager to develop and implement programs and events providing volunteer and service learning opportunities for students enrolled in the Future Leaders program. Lead programs within a scheduled time frame and help plan, execute, and evaluate ongoing afterschool programs as assigned. Provide instruction to students participating in EdVenture's Future Leaders program, the museum's after school youth development program, with a focus on developing leadership capacity and incorporating STEM topics. Ensure that all programs are of the highest quality and represent EdVenture in a professional manner when interacting with students, school faculty, and other community partners.
Qualifications include:
Background in education, recreation, youth development, social services, health and wellness or related field desired. Experience with the planning and implementation of programming for youth, particularly involving science, technology, engineering, and math.
Must have experience in working with youth in grades 6 through 8, as well as an understanding of adolescent development, strong organization and communication skills, pleasant personality, good interpersonal skills, professional and groomed appearance, commitment to diversity, ability to work as a team player, ability to meet deadlines, and display discretion and good judgment in daily activities.
Must be able to communicate well with children and adults, as well as speak before groups of students. Successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a collaborative team member, model positive, appropriate, supportive adult/child interaction, be a team oriented employee able to work well with all museum and school employees and volunteers, and be available for flexible scheduling, Monday through Friday afternoons.
After School Teachers and Site Coordinators
EdVenture Children’s Museum is looking to hire after school teachers and site coordinators to conduct programming in Richland District One schools for the 2011-2012 school year. Desirable applicants will have experience working with children, are Education majors and/or have a strong desire to inspire and mentor children ages 4-12 years old. Minimum HS diploma/college experience preferred.
