In Critter Garden, children learn
about the biodiversity of plants and animals native to South
Carolina and the role each one plays, even in the delicate
ecosystem of one's own garden. They learn what they can do to
care for the flora and the fauna, and how the different species manage to care
for themselves.

Walk with the Animals
Imagine you were the size of a little Carolina Wren. Join us
in a maze-like plant path with interactive stations and
giant animals and climbing structures. "Get caught" in the
oversized spider web. Take a ride on a loggerhead
turtle's shell. Say hello to the friendly ladybug and
butterfly. Or build your own bird's nest.
Kids will learn where each of these animals lives and how they eat, sleep
and protect themselves.
Join us in this sunny outdoor gallery. It's sure to bring out the animal in you!
Our state reptile is the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta). It is a threatened
species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
