EdVenture 2008
It’s time to register for Camp EdVenture 2008!
We have 20+ summer camps available for children
ages 3 to 12 inside the South’s largest children’s museum.
New camps in 2008 give children the opportunity to explore
the science of sound, discover music from around the world,
investigate the natural world, and discover the science
behind our everyday world. We still have your old favorites
such as “Young Chefs”, “Abracadabra Apprentice” and “Junior
Firefighter”!

Morning camps are 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday – Friday.
Full day camps are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday- Friday.
Extended
care until 5 p.m.

year olds
EDDIE’S World
What kind of world does a 40-foot tall child live in
anyway? EDDIE lives inside EdVenture and our littlest
campers will get to climb and slide through his body before
going off to explore the rest of the museum exhibits!
Campers will investigate themes such as what makes up a
community, the cultures of West Africa, how to stay healthy
and the arts.
June 2 – 6, July 7 – 11, Aug 11 - 15 (Morning Only)
4 & 5 year olds
EDDIE’S World
Children will investigate the world of EDDIE and use their
natural curiosity to answer questions such as how big is
EDDIE’S shoe and what did he eat for lunch? Through fun
science experiments, art investigations, story times and
interactive games, children in this camp develop and enhance
the skills needed to prepare them for kindergarten.

Move and Groove Jr. (NEW!)
Children use their innate energy to explore how their bodies
move, while learning about basic music concepts such as
rhythm. Different kinds of music, movement and dance are
incorporated into each day, exposing children to the music
of numerous cultures.

Science Sprouts
Making science fun! Young campers will investigate and
uncover the mysteries of everyday science while conducting
fun experiments in the lab.
June 9 – 13, July 14 – 18 (Morning Only)
Junior Firefighter
Has your child ever wanted to meet a real firefighter? This
camp is taught by real firefighters and children will learn
what it takes to be a firefighter, including trying on real
gear, and learning about home and fire safety.
June 16 – 20, July 7 – 11 (Morning Only)
Young Chefs
These young chefs will get an introduction to important math
and science skills while cooking up tasty culinary treats,
as well as some delightfully gross creations.
June 23 – 27, July 21 – 25 (Morning Only)
Break a Leg Jr.
These young actors will learn about theater and create
props, sets, and costumes as well as star in their very own
production at the end of the week.
July 7 - 11 August 4 -7

Making Music Jr.(NEW!)
Campers will investigate the science of sound, while
learning about different kinds of musical instruments.
Designing and creating their own musical instrument and
composing music will give children a chance to express their
own musical talents.

6 & 7 year olds
Break a Leg Sr.
Actors-in-training will learn even more about theater life
while designing and creating advanced props, sets and
costumes in preparation for their production at the end of
the week.
Campers in the full day program will have the opportunity to
continue creating advanced props, sets and costumes
throughout the day.

Kitchen Science (NEW!)
What do chemistry and cooking have to do with each
other? Everything! Campers explore the math and science
behind what happens in our kitchens and throughout our
homes, while conducting experiments and watching fascinating
demonstrations.
Campers in the full day program will have the opportunity to
experience even more of the curious science behind everyday
life.
June 16 – 20 (Morning and Full Day)
Move and Groove Sr. (NEW!)
People all around the world use their bodies to express how
they feel through dance. Campers use their own bodies and
creativity to learn about the art of dance and its
relationship to music.Music and dance from a variety of
cultures will be explored throughout the week.
June 23 – 27, July 28 – Aug 1 (Morning Only)
Making Music Sr. (NEW!)
How does sound make waves? Campers will investigate the
science of sound and explore different ways of making
sound. They will discover how to turn sound into music by
designing and creating their own musical instrument, as well
as composing their own musical masterpiece.

Abracadabra Apprentice
Campers become apprentices of a real magician and learn the
secret art of magic and illusion in preparation for a magic
show performance at the end of the week.
July 14 – 18, Aug 4 – 8 (Morning Only)
Environmental Investigators (NEW!)
Is your child curious about the outside world? Campers will
explore the natural world, from the forests to the oceans.
Participants will conduct experiments, discover the nature
in the museum’s backyard and learn ways to conserve the
environment we all share.
Aug 11 – 15 (Morning Only)
8 & 9 year olds
Computers and “Crickets” (NEW!)
Are there crickets in that computer? These crickets aren’t
of the insect variety, but are instead part of unique
computer software that combines art and technology.
Children will use this software to construct a variety of
exciting creations, while learning about light, sound,
motion and robotics.
June 9 – 13 (Morning Only)
Mimicking the Masters
Back again this summer, young apprentices will study several
master artist styles and apply those styles to their own
artistic creations. Learn how Jackson Pollack threw paint
balloons on canvas to create masterpieces! Campers will use
different mediums to explore their own artistic
inspirations.
June 23 – 27 (Morning Only)
Edible EdVentures
An advanced-level cooking camp that explains math and
science processes and lets young chefs get hands-on
experience preparing fun food creations.
Campers in the full day program will have the opportunity to
explore additional food science investigations throughout
the day.
July 21 – 25 (Morning or Full Day)
Wilderness Explorers Jr.
Young outdoorsmen and women will learn what it takes to
explore the wilderness. This includes the appropriate gear,
right skills and safety techniques. Campers will put this
knowledge to the test while exploring the museum’s backyard
and learning about local flora and fauna.
Aug 4 – 8 (Morning Only)
10-12 year-olds

CSI 101
Gumshoes will learn how to solve mysteries by looking into
the science that real detectives use, including
fingerprinting, DNA typing and criminal investigation
techniques.
July 7 – 11 (Morning Only)
Amusement Park Robotics
Techno-kids will explore the world of robotics and learn
about the physics behind popular amusement park rides, while
designing their own unique “rides” in EdVenture’s CyberLoft.
July 28 – Aug 1 (Morning Only)
Wilderness Explorers Sr.
Young outdoorsmen and women will learn about what it takes
to explore the wilderness. This includes the appropriate
gear, right skills and safety techniques. Campers will put
this knowledge to the test while exploring the museum’s
backyard and learning about local flora and fauna.
Aug 11 – 15 (Morning Only)
Camps must meet minimum enrollment numbers to avoid
cancellation. Parents will be notified at least seven days
in advance of any changes in schedule.
