Summer Camp 2018

 

 

REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR CAMP EDVENTURE!

June 11–August 10

(Excluding the week of July 2-6) 

Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm

Complimentary drop-off begins at 7:30am. | Extended Day is available until 6pm. 

Summer Camp costs

Signature Camps 

$195 per week/per camper (non-members) EdVenture members enjoy a 15% discount.

Extended Day (3pm–6pm) $10 per child/per day

General Information for all Camps

Drop off/Pick up/Extended Day

Complimentary drop off is 7:30am daily. Campers accompanied by a parent/guardian should be dropped off using the front entrance of the museum. Pick-up is at 3pm (with proper ID). Extended day services are available from 3-6pm for an additional $50 per camper per week. Extended day pick up is at 6pm(with proper ID).

Food/Snack

Camp EdVenture provides a freshly-made lunch and one snack for all campers. Campers are encouraged to bring an additional non-perishable snack. If a camper has a food allergy, please make sure that it is included in the registration process.

Clothing

All registered campers will receive a Camp EdVenture t-shirt. Campers are required to wear their camp t-shirt daily. Additional shirts are available for purchase.

Valuables

We encourage campers to leave valuables (including all electronic devices) at home. Camp EdVenture will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items. If a camper does misplace any items during Camp, items will be placed in the lost and found at the Welcome Desk. We encourage parents/guardians to write the camper’s initials on jackets, backpacks and lunch boxes.

Camp Confirmation

You will receive an email confirmation upon completion of your online registration. Your confirmation email will include your confirmation number and information about Camp EdVenture.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel at least two weeks prior to the start of the summer camp, we will refund your tuition less a $50 registration fee per week. If you cancel with less than two weeks notice, no refund or credit will be given. EdVenture reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a camp if minimum enrollment is not met. Parents will be notified at least seven days in advance of any changes in schedule. Tuition paid due to an EdVenture cancellation will be refunded in full.

MAKE IT AND TAKE IT ~ JUNE 11-15 

Our youngest learners will dive into making by designing shapes and letters using Perler Beads, cardboard, and recycled books.  We will try our hand at origami, pixel art and engineering 101.

LITTLE BITES ~ JUNE 18-22

The tiniest of campers are not to be forgotten in our cooking classes! We introduce campers to the magical world of cooking with hands-on food preparation, cutting and dicing, and of course, tasting! Each day, the campers will try new dishes with fresh fruits and vegetables that they assemble themselves! Campers will also get to enjoy fun literary selections that teach them about being healthy and brave in the kitchen! Campers will bring home their tasty creations to share and recipes to recreate in their very own kitchens.

SENSATIONAL HABITATS! ~ JUNE 25-29

What does an Arctic habitat look, feel, and smell like? Campers will explore habitats in all climates and will rely on their senses to become world explores.

BUILDING 101 ~ JULY 9-13

How tall can we build using straws and cardstock? What type of measurements can we use to gauge our success? Campers will use materials of all shapes and sizes to build, design and create structures. Substanability will be a main focus, as students will interact with literature and recyclable materials all throughout the week.

COLORPALOOZA ~ JULY 30-AUGUST 3

Color mixing can be tricky, so campers will work this week to tackle different science experiments in order to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts behind color mixing. Our youngest campers will design rainbow paper towels, bubbling solution, and their own personal sand recipe.

BUILD TOGETHER, MOVE TOGETHER ~ AUGUST 6-10

Cars, boats, and planes: What do they all have in common? During this week, guest will design vehicles that move using recycled materials and battery-powered motors. Join us as we race to the finish line at the end of the week in EdVenture's Great Outdoors.

TROUPE EDVENTURE~ JUNE 11-15 

This summer, EdVenture will provide opportunities for students to immerse themselves in their love for theatre and acting. The campers will learn the skills needed to develop and create a storybook smash up show that will be performed at the end of the week as part of the camp's finale.

CAMP EDDIE: ENTERTAINMENT, DISCOVERY, DESIGN, INNOVATION AND ENGAGEMENT ~ JUNE 18-22 

Ever wonder what it takes to create a museum, zoo or theme park? In this interactive camp experience, our young designers will use scratch animation, the engineering process, and their creativity to design their own theme park, including a model rollercoaster!

CAMPERS' GOURMET COOKBOOK ~ JUNE 25-29

This summer your camper will learn how to read and write their own recipes, collect images of tasty dishes and how to garnish a dish! They will start with the basics of food preparation, knife safety, and flavor development. With a hands-on approach to cooking, campers will explore a number of tasty recipes and be able to develop their own cookbook to share. They will be able to take home samples of their dishes, in addition to other recipes and resources.

FROM ROCKS TO SOCKS: MAN'S ENGINEERING FEATS ~ JULY 9-13

Put your problem solving hats on! We are able to enter the world of engineering, where we will discover that things aren't always as simple as they seem. From designing earthquake proof buildings, to crash testing cars, your student will learn through trial and error how to overcome the obstacles before them.

ROBOTICS AND CODING: THE ROAD TO BEING TECH SAVVY STARTS HERE ~ JULY 16-20

Build and program a robot with Lego Mindstorm. Design and code an interactive animated story with Scratch Software. How fun solving maze challenges with Ozobots. Engineering your own machine using motors, batteries, and everyday items.

Exploring science covers 5 different areas of science; One area is covered each day: Astronomy, Simple Machines, Human Body, Plants, Animals and dinosaurs.

This camp is designed to introduce very young scientists to using science inquiry methods. Campers are invited to take a glimpse into the different habits of some of Earth’s most interesting creatures! Mixing science with art, campers will leave EdVenture looking for the unique characteristics of their own ecosystem!

CSI EDVENTURE! ARE YOU READY TO BE A DETECTIVE?~ JUNE 11-15

Sharpen your investigative and problem solving skills as you uncover a series of mysteries and daily challenges. Use a variety of lab equipment, conduct mind-boggling experiments, analyze test results and collect insightful clues to solve each “crime”.

THEATER: LIGHTS, CAMERA AND ACTION! ~ JUNE 18-22

Discover the magical world of theater. Learn how to create a set, design costumes, write powerful dialogue and, of course, how to act with flare! Let your creative spirit shine as you uncover hidden talents and gain confidence to speak well in public.

ROLLERCOASTER ENGINEERING ~ JUNE 25-29 

Think, design, test and build your own rollercoaster. Understand and practice fundamental concepts from physics, business and materials engineering. Every day you will need to solve engineering problems as you improve your design.  How can you make your rollercoaster faster, safer, sturdier, easier to install, more fun to ride and cheaper to build?

GLOBAL KITCHEN~ JULY 9-13

This summer your camper can travel the world without leaving home! Our experienced culinary instructors will be your camper's guide to some of the most exotic and tasty dishes from around the world. They can expect to learn not only how to prepare international dishes, like Thai curries and Japanese temaki, but to also be exposed to the geography and culinary traditions of these cuisines! Each of the five days of camp will focus on a different region and they will be able to take home recipes and resources to share with the whole family!

SCIENCE OF SPORTS: HIGHER, FASTER, STRONGER ~ JULY 16-20

What does it take to be great in sports? Understand the science behind the nutrition, the physical and mental training and the recovery techniques professional athletes must go through to be successful. Learn and practice a variety of math skills as we dig deeper into the health, physics and game strategy of sports.

ROBOTICS: MARS EXPLORATION ~ JULY 23-27

Work in teams to build and program a rover robot able to perform a variety of tasks independently on an alien planet: shoot at targets, navigate obstacles, collect rock samples and more. We will use LEGO Mindstorm and Kodu to create a both physical and virtual robot and planet. Use recycled materials to make and take home your own motor powered little alien.

Turn ordinary, discarded, unused, and overlooked items into extraordinary creations. Build, design, experiment and have fun with catapults, pulleys, zoetropes, terrariums, chemical reactions, stuffed animal pillows, paper toys and more.

TOP CHEF ACADEMY ~ JUNE 11-15 | JULY 16-20

Is your camper ready to become the next top chef? In this fun, five-day camp, young chefs will practice essential kitchen skills and master the fundamentals of cooking. They will work alongside their classmates to build dishes from the ground up, exploring many dishes from around the world! In addition to mastering (and eating!) their dishes, campers will be introduced to nutritionally informed choices in the kitchen and have the opportunity to apply math and reading skills in a creative and tasty way! Each camper will bring home a number of recipes and resources to share with their families that continue to foster their passion for cooking!

THE SCIENCE OF FLIGHT ~ JUNE 18-22 

Launch an EdVenture into the forces of flight!! Investigate aerodynamics with exciting hands-on experiments, model aircraft construction, realistic flight simulation, and more. Campers will get to spend time modeling what they have learned in our newest permanent exhibit, FLIGHT!

CREATION PLACE ~ JUNE 25-29

What’s is like to see EdVenture from the perspective of a child? Our oldest campers will use digital cameras to create interactive news segments about the different exhibits at EdVenture. Campers will come up with a film layout, a script, and determine what facts are interesting about each exhibit.

CAMP EDDIE: ENTERTAINMENT, DISCOVER, DESIGN, INNOVATION, AND ENGAGEMENT ~ JULY 23-27 

What does it take to make a golf course? Can you animate your own golf hole, complete with a player? Golf Camp goes through what it takes to make your own golf course, what types of hazards, landscape, turf, etc. Students create a golf course out of construction paper materials, determine if the course flows, and then creates their own holes on the computer, complete with an animated golfer and real 3-D details.

ROBOTICS & 3D DESIGN/ PRINT ~ JULY 30- AUGUST 3

Work in teams to build and program a robot with Lego Mindstorm. Robots will compete in daily fun challenges meant to test your design creativity, problem solving and collaboration skills. Learn how to create 3D designs with Tinkercad software. Make, print and take home your own 3D creation.
