Team UP! Explore the Science of Sports
Have you ever wondered if your pitching arm could compete in the big leagues or wanted to give Serena Williams a run for her money in a game of tennis? Now is your chance to find out how you stack up and how to increase your odds of athletic success through science. EdVenture Children’s Museum presents “Team UP! Explore Science and Sports,” an exciting new hands-on exhibit that gives visitors an in-depth look at how scientific principles affect athletic performance. The exhibition opens June 13 and runs through January 3, 2010.
Children and families alike can utilize interactive displays focused on the science involved in becoming a winning athlete. Museum-goers can test their skill sets and witness science at work in various sports, including basketball, football, baseball, tennis, and soccer as well as extreme sports such as snowboarding. Participants will be intrigued with the principles of geometry, physics, force and friction relative to their favorite sports.
The fourth Saturday of each month, EdVenture will highlight one sport in its "Play It!" series. On these days, we will reinforce our motto that "everyone plays" as we ask all visitors regardless of age or ability to participate in activities and compete in friendly games. The schedule is as follows:
July 25 - Soccer “Kick It”
Aug 22 - Baseball “Hit It”
Sept 26 - Football “Throw It”
Oct 24 - Tennis “Serve It”
Nov 28 - Basketball “Bounce It”
Dec 26 - Hockey “Shoot It”
Get active! Get moving! Team UP! is a great way for children to become up close and personal with their favorite sports!
