Diced is an exciting culinary program designed to engage students interested in cooking by utilizing healthy, locally sourced, and fringe ingredients while encouraging them to consider creativity, presentation and taste in their dishes. The program will consist of a four week long cooking course with an intense cook off challenge the fifth week to showcase the skills the students have acquired in classes. This program is aimed at students who wish to explore the possibility of pursuing a career in the culinary world. The winner and runner up will receive a substantial grand prize intended to help the chefs pursue a career in the culinary field.

Our cook off challenge will feature our talented  kid chefs who must use the ingredients found in a mystery basket of surprising food items and to prepare and serve three different dishes within 30 minutes. Chef contestants may use additional ingredients and culinary tools available to them in the Diced kitchen.

To apply, you must be between the ages of 11-15 and be available the following dates for the preliminary cooking courses leading up to the main event:

September 25th

September 27th

October 2nd

October 4th

And the main event on October 6th

 

Each potential contestant will be asked to provide a video and written submission. Video submissions can be recorded by phone camera or digital device. The rubric will be as followed for video submissions:

* Tell us where you are from, how old you are, and what your favorite dish to prepare is

* Why you think you have what it takes to be the Diced champion

* What are your strengths in the kitchen?

* Where do you want culinary arts to take you in the future?

 

Written submissions can be sent in by mail or digitally. The rubric will be as followed for written submissions:

* How long have you been cooking?

* Who is your cooking influence?

* How much time do you spend in the kitchen typically?

* What’s the dish that inspired your love for cooking?

* What advice would you give young chefs about the kitchen?

 

Applications containing the required materials above should be sent to diced@edventure.org

If selected, participants will be required to pay an $125 Participation Fee

The Participation Fee will cover the cost of the 4 cooking classes, as well as DICED branded clothing and cooking gear for selected participants. 

Scholarships may be made available to participants unable to afford the standard participation fee
